New Dream Hunter Rem: steal from the classics

The final installment of Dream Hunter REM steals from a wide array of classics, both literary and pulpy, high-brow and low-brow: Frankenstein, Pinocchio, The Sorrows of Young Werther, Faust … and, if I’m not mistaken, Heidi.

When an anime show manages to name-check Hegel and The Sorrows of Young Werther within the same half-hour, you know you’re in for a weird ride.

Christianity gets a surprisingly sympathetic treatment, although as usual, the Christian priest is at best a tragic character.

In context, it’s not too surprising that sometimes rockets work against demons and sometimes they don’t, depending on the needs of the plot. This series has never been addicted to the Cool of Rules.
