Crime Scene Investigation: Mahouka

Detective stories have a broad appeal, I guess. Throwing in a fantasy technology makes it easy for the writers to come up with any kind of conflict they like. It would be considerably harder to write this kind of story in any halfway plausible world.

However, detective shows that pretend to deal with real life, such as the CSI series, are fundamentally fantasies, not techno-thrillers. They get lots and lots of procedural details completely wrong, to the point where lawyers are concerned that juries get silly ideas about the usefulness of DNA evidence due to silly TV shows.
