Prolegomena to A Grand Unified Theory of Porn

I would like to write a grand unified theory, but I’m lazy, so I’m just going to publish my rough notes on the nature of porn.

Unfortunately, I had planned to make something NSFW with lots of examples, but the following is just theory, so it might actually be much tamer than you would expect.

Part One: Do Stereotypical Male Fantasies Result From Typical Male Failures?

First – a basic “red pill” truth is that women desire men with higher social status. But that can mean different things. A pro athlete has high status, even if he’s retired and crippled; an ambitious self-made millionaire has high status, even if he’s temporarily out of money; a convicted murderer has high status, even though he’s been caught and sent to prison.

Second – another basic “red pill” truth is that 20% of the men get 80% of female attention. To some degree, that’s just theoretical attention; movie stars get women fantasizing about them, but don’t have time to have sex with thousands of women. Some pro athletes have reported actual, physical sex with thousands of women. Wilt Chamberlain allegedly had sex with 23 different women over the course of a single 10-day road trip.

Wealthy pro athletes have many female fans who volunteer for sex, but such athletes also have the cash to rent prostitutes if desired, so I don’t doubt that Chamberlain slept with more than 1000 women; I just presume some of them received cash compensation.

Society encourage males to avow public pride in fantasies of certain achievements. E.g., young businessmen are encouraged to say that they would like to be rich and to own successful companies. Society also encourages less-public fantasies about sex, and many of these male fantasies seem to be simple role reversals of male courtship failures.

Here is a short list of male fantasies off the top of my head:

M1. the obsequious maid/servant who genuinely admires her male master;
M2. the coerced slave who feels she can’t resist the commands she hates;
M3. the cat-eared girl who is totally in touch with her animal lust;
M4. the fickle girl who initially resists but gets more interested as time goes on.

And here are a few female fantasies:

F1. the wildly lustful man who can’t restrain himself from raping the heroine;
F2. the man who keeps going even though he and the heroine can be seen;
F3. sex that transgresses physical safety, getting tied up or cut;
F4. sex that transgresses social safety, e.g. having sex with multiple potential husbands at once.

I will argue that all of these fantasies are connected to real-world failures, but female fantasies are less failure-related than male ones.

M1. The obsequious servant who desires her male master is an inversion of a real-life male failure, namely – a lot of girls feel they need to act obsequious, but they don’t genuinely admire or desire the guy that they’re flattering. Many hot waitresses feel that they need to convince each male customer that he is only one for her, but of course the waitress doesn’t feel that way, and resents the whole charade.

M2. The coerced female slave who doesn’t want to do something degrading, but feels she must obey the command of her male master is another inversion of real life. It works on at least two levels by inverting two real-life failures:

A-Very often, a girl will be sexually attracted to a guy until he gives her some command that she finds repulsive – and then she becomes totally uncooperative and hostile.

B-Very often, a guy has to take the initiative and a girl will relax and let him do anything he wants, so long as she enjoys it. Then, suddenly, she decides that she doesn’t enjoy it, and she withdraws consent and commands him to stop all sexual behavior.

So there are two inversions: in real life, the male is the slave who is commanded to stop doing something he strongly wants to do – and in real life, the girl starts as cooperative and ends as uncooperative.

M3. Catgirls are typically very playful and lustful; they lack polite inhibitions and adult courtesy, so they are usually rather young. This is because society blames all sexual behavior on male impulses, calls males “animals,” and tells males to “grow up.” Adulthood, self-control, responsibility, and civilized repression of animal impulses are presented as male duties to society. The male who feels lust is told to stop playing and to stop “acting like an animal.”

M4. The fickle girl who plays hard-to-get and then warms up is celebrated in fiction. Some women manage to act out this trope successfully in real life. However, this stereotype offers many ways to compensate for real-life dating failures.
Very often, people start dating and initially act interested in each other – then they decide that they really aren’t attracted to each other. Sometimes people have a one-night stand, then stop acting fake, and instead of forming a stable relationship they just break up because they actually don’t find each other very attractive.
